2011 model year brings tougher, more rigorous testing procedures from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), to help provide more information to consumers about the performance of safety features and crash-avoidance technologies. Just how tough are these new standards?
Consider that of the 40 different vehicle models tested so far using the new procedures, just six have received overall five-star scores from NHTSA. Of those six vehicles, only one was honored with five-star ratings in each of the three individual NHTSA tests. That car? None other than our 2011 Honda Accord sedan, which earned five stars for frontal-crash, side-crash and rollover protection.
The 2011 Accord Sedan earned a 5-star safety rating in each combined NCAP category—quite an honor, especially given the new, more stringent standards enacted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Every Accord Sedan helps protect you with a host of standard safety features, including Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control and active front head restraints. Plus, every Accord features standard front, front side and side curtain airbags to help reduce the likelihood of injuries in a collision.
